3 Ways We Reduce Pet Stress During Veterinary Appointments
October 1, 2015

Proper veterinary care is very important to your pet’s health and well-being, but visiting us will probably never rank as one of your furry friend’s favorite activities. Going to the vet can be quite scary for our animal friends! After all, pets don’t necessarily understand that veterinary care is really in their own best interests. Here at Animal Hospital of Mt. Pocono, your Mt. Pocono, PA animal clinic, we do everything we can to make visiting the doctor more pleasant for our furred and feathered patients. Read on to learn about three ways we make veterinary appointments easier for pets.

Separate Areas

Dogs and cats both make wonderful pets, but they aren’t always the best of friends. As you may know, Man’s Best Friend can get very excited when he sees a cat. Kitties, on the other hand, are often absolutely terrified of dogs. To keep both dogs and cats calmer, we have separate waiting areas for our canine and feline patients. Fido and Fluffy even have their own examination rooms!

Calming Techniques

Even the calmest pets can get nervous when visiting the doctor. For many animals, the anxiety often starts with being put in a carrier and taken on a car ride. Even pets that don’t mind the trip often get a little scared once they arrive. One major reason that pets get so frightened at the vet’s is that they are faced with so many strange smells and sounds. The scent of our other patients, who are often also frightened and sometimes sick, can make an anxious pet even more nervous! We use modern sound and scent technologies to soothe fearful pets and keep them calm, and make the experience as pleasant as possible for them.

Gentle Handling

All of our staff members share a deep love and compassion for animals. We know that our animal friends are more than just pets: they’re part of the family. Whether you have a cat, dog, bird, reptile, or other type of pet, rest assured that your little buddy will be treated with the utmost care. We handle all animals very carefully, and always treat our charges with kindness and respect. Our gentle handling techniques help relax nervous pets and minimize stress.
